1.7 What is the optimum fileset for a complete system backup? One that will copy only those files necessary for a complete RESTORE?

/ - /SYS/PUB/NL - /SYS/PUB/SL - /SYS/MPEXL/DUMPAREA - /TELESUP/DUMPS/@ - /tmp/

or, if you prefer,

@.@.@ - nl.pub.sys – sl.pub.sys – dumparea.mpexl.sys - @.dumps.telesup - /tmp/

The "- <fileset>" stuff causes the backup to be shortened by many megabytes of data, data that either comes in from the SLT tape in an UPDATE or INSTALL (NL, SL, DUMPAREA) or that you probably don't care about (memory dumps and temp files in /tmp/).

You may, of course, want to minus out other file sets that can be recovered independently, say a history database that is only updated monthly and is backed up separately, in order to further shorten the time required for a "full" system backup.

Also, do not forget the DIRECTORY option (with ONVS if you have user volume sets) to store the directory structure.
