SUMMARY o Interactive -- enter HELP at the system prompt. Then enter COMMANDNAME[,[KEYWORD]]. Exit by entering E or EXIT. o Direct Access -- enter HELP COMMANDNAME[,[KEYWORD]] at the system prompt. Help exits after displaying (and scrolling) the portion that you specified. o This SUMMARY contains six topics: NEW external features that are relatively new since the previous release of MPE/iX. ONLINEINFO references to online sources of current information on the HP e3000. NM commands that execute in Native Mode, and thus follow a more flexible syntax. CM commands that are parsed in Compatibility Mode, and thus are more restrictive in their syntax. UNSUPPORTED MPE V commands that NOT available in MPE/iX. SYNTAX discusses syntax supported by the NM commands.

:HELP XYZ --> START OF COMMAND "XYZ" | Quick in, : --> scrolls and leaves the help facility | quick out :HELP XYZ PARMS ----> START OF PARAMETERS OF "XYZ" : --> scrolls and leaves the help facility The following features are relatively new additions to MPE/iX: :ABORTPROC new command to abort one or more processes. :INPUT added the ability to receive replies from the console. :NEWCI new commmand to create an alternate CI, thus reducing system usage of processes. KSAM64 new option to support very large KSAM files. input() same INPUT command features added to the input function. jinfo() new function that returns information on jobs and sessions. jobcnt() new function that returns the number of jobs/sessions matching a logon ID. store-to- STORE can write backed up files to disk in FOS. disk There are many excellent online resources containing current information on the HP e3000. o http://jazz.external.hp.com - Commercial System Division's (CSY) technical Web site featuring Apache on MPE/iX. o http://www.burke-consulting.com/ John Burke's Community Site o http://jazz.external.hp.com/papers/hp3000-info.html - Document describing many additional online resources. o http://www.hp.com/go/e3000 - CSY's official marketing Web site. o http://www.docs.hp.com/mpeix/ - HP e3000 manuals online. o http://www.interex.org/tech/3000/ - Interex's HP e3000 online community. o http://www.3kworld.com/ - 3K World's HP e3000 online community. o http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html Archives of the popular HP3000-L internet news list. o http://www.3k.com/faq/hpfaqi.html Online FAQ for the HP e3000. o http://www.hp3000links.com Many HP e3000 links. EXIT inside of HELP terminates the HELP facility and does not describe the CI EXIT command. To get information on the CI EXIT command, enter "help exit" from the CI prompt. (more - <Return> Compatibility Mode Commands These commands are parsed in Compatibility Mode. Therefore, their syntax is more restrictive than the syntax for NM commands. Many of the commands below switch to NM for execution after their parameters have been parsed. In the Help Facility, they are denoted by the notation (CM). Abortjob Accept Allocate Allow Altacct Altgroup Altlog Altsec Altspoolfile Altuser Associate Basic Basicgo Basicomp Basicprep Bbasic Bbasicgo Bbasicomp Bbasicprep Build Changelog Cobolii Coboliigo Coboliiprep Console Deallocate Deletespoolfile Disallow Disassociate Discrps Down Download Dscopy Dsline Editor Fcopy File Fortgo Fortprep Fortran Freerin Ftn Ftngo Ftnprep Getlog Getrin Imf Imfcontrol Imfmgr Listacct Listeq Listf Listftemp Listgroup Listlog Listuser Listvs Log Netcontrol Newacct Newgroup Newuser Nrje Nrjecontrol Nscontrol Pascal Pascalgo Pascalprep Prep Preprun Purgeacct Purgegroup Purgeuser Refuse Release Rellog Remote Rename Report Reset Resetacct Restore Resumenmlog Resumespool Rje Rpg Rpggo Rpgprep Run Save Secure Segmenter Setjcw Setmsg Showallocate Showallow Showdev Showin Showjcw Showjob Showlogstatus Shownmlog Showout Speed Spl Splgo Splprep Startsess Startspool Stopspool Store Stream Streams Suspendspool Switchnmlog Tell Up Vstore Warn Welcome HP predefined variables are listed under the entry VARIABLES. (more - <Return>) These commands are not supported in MPE/iX. Some of the commands below are concerned with optimizing the performance of the system. These optimizing functions now reside in the background of the MPE/iX system. ()command logon Altvset Apl Autoallocate Cachecontrol Cline Cobol Cobolgo Cobolprep Creset Dscontrol Foreign Fullbackup Give Miodisable Mioenable Moff Mon Mpline Mrje Mrjecontrol Newvset Partbackup Ptape Purgevset Quantum Showcache Showcom Startcache Stopcache Sysdump Take Vinit SYNTAX RULE: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: The old MPE-V/E syntax (shown in :::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: the syntax diagrams) always works :::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The MPE-V/E syntax conventions are maintained throughout the Help Facility for consistency. You may use the MPE-V/E syntax convention for all CI commands. For the new commands and the old commands that are parsed in NM, an easier to use and more flexible syntax is supported. Suppose that and Native Mode parsed command named CMDNAME has the following syntax: :CMDNAME KEYWORD1=value1; KEYWORD2=value2;... KEYWORDn=valueN Because it is a NM command, you may choose how you enter the command at the keyboard or in a job stream. For the NM command CMDNAME, the following forms of entry are valid and equivalent: :CMDNAME KEYWORD1=a; KEYWORD2= b... ;KEYWORDn = n :CMDNAME a, b,... ,n :CMDNAME a, b; KEYWORD7=g; KEYWORD4 =d ;KEYWORD3= c The order relationship between parameters is still important: positional parameters must come before keyword parameters, as they did in MPE-V/E. This is true for all commands. Because this order relationship is enforced, the following attempt to enter positional parameters after a keyword parameter will produce an error: :CMDNAME a, b;KEYWORD7=g, h Introducing a keyword variable (delimited with a semi-colon) terminates positional assignment. The positional "h" produces an error above. More syntax rules and examples are available by entering HELP SYNTAX. (more - <Return>) Back to Main Index
