o Interactive -- enter HELP at the system prompt. Then enter
COMMANDNAME[,[KEYWORD]]. Exit by entering E or EXIT.

o Direct Access -- enter HELP COMMANDNAME[,[KEYWORD]] at the system

     that you specified.

o This SUMMARY contains six topics:

NEW external features that are relatively new since the
                    previous release of MPE/iX.
ONLINEINFO references to online sources of current information
                    on the HP e3000.
NM commands that execute in Native Mode, and thus
                    follow a more flexible syntax.
CM commands that are parsed in Compatibility Mode, and
thus are more restrictive in their syntax.
UNSUPPORTED MPE V commands that NOT available in MPE/iX.
SYNTAX discusses syntax supported by the NM commands.

The following features are relatively new additions to MPE/iX:

:ABORTPROC new command to abort one or more processes.
:INPUT added the ability to receive replies from the console.
:NEWCI new commmand to create an alternate CI, thus reducing
              system usage of processes.
KSAM64 new option to support very large KSAM files.
input() same INPUT command features added to the input function.
jinfo() new function that returns information on jobs and
              sessions.
jobcnt() new function that returns the number of jobs/sessions
              matching a logon ID.
store-to- STORE can write backed up files to disk in FOS.

describe the CI EXIT command. To get information on the CI
EXIT command, enter "help exit" from the CI prompt.

                      Compatibility Mode Commands

These commands are parsed in Compatibility Mode. Therefore, their
syntax is more restrictive than the syntax for NM commands. Many of the
commands below switch to NM for execution after their parameters have
been parsed. In the Help Facility, they are denoted by the notation
(CM).

These commands are not supported in MPE/iX. Some of the commands below
are concerned with optimizing the performance of the system. These
optimizing functions now reside in the background of the MPE/iX system.

                              SYNTAX RULE:
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::::::::::: The old MPE-V/E syntax (shown in ::::::::::::::::::
::::::::::::::::: the syntax diagrams) always works ::::::::::::::::::
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The MPE-V/E syntax conventions are maintained throughout the
Help Facility for consistency. You may use the MPE-V/E
syntax convention for all CI commands. For the new commands
and the old commands that are parsed in NM, an easier to use
and more flexible syntax is supported.

Suppose that and Native Mode parsed command named CMDNAME
           has the following syntax:

:CMDNAME KEYWORD1=value1; KEYWORD2=value2;... KEYWORDn=valueN

Because it is a NM command, you may choose how you
enter the command at the keyboard or in a job stream.

For the NM command CMDNAME, the following forms of
           entry are valid and equivalent:

:CMDNAME KEYWORD1=a; KEYWORD2= b... ;KEYWORDn = n

:CMDNAME a, b,... ,n

:CMDNAME a, b; KEYWORD7=g; KEYWORD4 =d ;KEYWORD3= c

The order relationship between parameters is still important: positional
parameters must come before keyword parameters, as they did in MPE-V/E.
This is true for all commands. Because this order relationship is
enforced, the following attempt to enter positional parameters after a
keyword parameter will produce an error:

:CMDNAME a, b;KEYWORD7=g, h

Introducing a keyword variable (delimited with a semi-colon) terminates
positional assignment. The positional "h" produces an error above.

More syntax rules and examples are available by entering HELP SYNTAX.
